Live slug
Try My Post Title! → my-post-title. Latin letters, digits, underscore, and Cyrillic can stay; most punctuation and emoji are removed. Preview updates on every keystroke.
Slug preview stays in this tab; use Copy slug when you need only the URL-safe string.
- Slug cleanup runs locally in this browser tab
- We do not receive your title for processing
- Free, no sign-in
Length & format benchmarks
Use these as sense checks while you edit-not rigid rules. Every app counts characters and “words” a little differently.
- Blog posts: ~800-2,000 words is a common full-article band before you split into a series.
- SEO explainers: ~1,000-2,500 words when you need depth, headings, and internal links without filler.
- Social: ~100-300 characters for a tight single post; threads need clear breaks.
- Academic abstracts: often ~150-300 words-always match the venue PDF.

What this is for
Use Slug Generator when WordPress, Shopify, or Git paths need a hyphenated permalink and you want the character count and segment split before you commit.
- Type or paste a title; the rose panel updates slug length, hyphens, and segments on every keystroke
- Pair with Text case converter or Lowercase when headings and slugs should match tone
- Check hard limits with Character counter if the CMS caps the full path
- Use Copy slug (or exports) when only the cleaned string should leave the tab
Remember: Cyrillic and Latin letters can both survive cleanup-rules differ from ASCII-only slug plugins.
Bookmark this page-permalinks and branch names are a repeat task. One fast tab beats ad-heavy slug sites.
When a live slug preview wins
You are picking a permalink, Git branch, or export filename and need to know length and word boundaries before you paste into WordPress, Shopify, or your router. This page shows the cleaned string, hyphen count, and segments so you catch ugly output early-still 100% local.
How it works
- Paste or type your title in the left field.
- Watch the rose Live slug panel-big slug length first, status line, then words, characters, lines, rough read time, hyphens, and segments.
- Read What this means / Next, then Copy slug for the string only.
What each metric means
- Slug length - characters in the final slug; primary check against CMS or filesystem limits.
- Segments - hyphen-separated pieces (roughly words after cleanup).
- Hyphens - how many separators; spikes can mean long compound titles.
- Words / title characters - quick sense of input size before cleanup.
- Quick peek - short before/after when your paste is not huge.
- Lines (trimmed) - newline count after trim; multi-line titles show structure before slugging.
- Reading time - rough minutes on your original paste at ~200 wpm (for long titles or blurbs).
- Status line - instant “ready to copy” vs “no URL-safe slug yet” without reading the whole panel.
Privacy: Your title is not sent to us for slugging; it stays in this tab until you reload, clear, or copy it yourself.
FAQ
- Is anything uploaded? No-preview and copy stay in this tab.
- What does the big number show? Slug length in characters after cleanup; it updates live.
- Non-English text? Cyrillic letters can remain in the slug; most other scripts are stripped because they are outside the allowed character set-not transliterated.
- Why is the slug empty? Input may be only emoji or symbols-add letters, digits, Cyrillic, or underscores.
- What does Copy slug copy? Only the slug line-not the stats block.
- Can I use it on my phone? Yes-the grid stacks; copy works the same way.
- Double hyphens? They are merged into one; ends are trimmed.
